Dear Lover

Paper.
It's all I have ever been to you.
You tore me out of the book of my friends,
claimed me as your own.
Marked me permanently, with words and hopes that can never be erased...
You made me into your work of your art,
beautifully terrible... I was no longer myself...
And then you gave me up for your own gain.
It matters not that you call me your masterpiece. It matters not the time and emotion your put into creating me.
Because all I am is paper...
not unique
you can just find another piece.
I'm recyclable, and even biodegradable...
And though you thought I was beautiful, you knew you could do better.
But you didn't toss me out of the window to rot
you didn't put me into recycling so I could be made new again...
no... you burned me, so only you could have had me....
and now I'm gone.
