Why didn't you pay the Pied Piper? Now all but one of the thirty seven children are stolen away... The Pied Piper did all you asked took all the rats, removed the plague. You didn't pay, you wouldn't reward the Pied Piper with flute for sword And with that beautiful weapon the Piper seized your children, thirty six, lead away with ease. Did the Pied Piper enjoy this task? Leading the children like he lead the rats? Taking them from heart and home to punish the greedy, let them live alone. But the greedy were not the only ones now alone the children, the children, taken from home what did the piper do to protect them? Let them not realize what had befallen? With rats it began, with rat babies it ended Pied Piper, a sorcerer. The children, transformed. With regret the Pied Piper plays on, his honor defended. Always followed by a rat horde numbering always, thirty six strong.
This amuses me very much. I was the Pied Piper in a play when I was a teenager, lol. We used real rats in the play too; we trained them to follow me as I dropped crumbs that the average audience member wouldn't notice me dropping. It was a fun time in my youth.
