like the patriot's flag
calling for love
the blood of soldiers covering her hands
she beacons, and you cannot deny her
She is insatiable thirst
needless hunger
hillsides like the spines of starving children
oceans vast and empty
like stomaches
and the eyes of the innocent in the midst of famine
she beacons, you dare not deny her.
We all know fear
butterflies turn to claws
flying out of our bellies and crawling down our backs
and all that's left behind is footprints
freckles on our shoulders
beautiful only in the eyes of some,
she beacons
like a flower full of nectar
a black widow
a venus flytrap.
We are caught in her honied fingers
stuck with the sweetest glue
we dissolve, deteriorate, melt away into insects
mosquitoes
and spread disease with gusts of wind
the evening breeze turning dust devils
the dying breath of the sun.
You taste her honey
she plants greed in your heart
and mirrors in your eyes
you are lost in beautiful reflections
the promises
but ice bites at your soul
with every broken promise the air gets colder
freezing to death
trapped in her web
frozen by your sins
each breath a cloud of regrets in the bitter air
but suddenly you feel warm
and all goes black.
